Sermon Series on the Gospel of John: Pastor Silman will be leading Cornerstone on a chapter-by chapter sermonic study of the Gospel of John over the summer. The study began with an introduction on April 7th. Study Guides for the congregation by Kathleen Buswell Nielson were available for purchase to be used for self-guided daily study. The Gospel of John is unlike the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke (Synoptic Gospels) because John’s narrative is devoted to convincing his readers that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing they may have life in his name. Two-thirds of his narrative is devoted to the last week of Jesus’ life. John shines the spotlight on the critically important redemptive historical activity that Jesus performed during his brief visit to earth as the Word of God who became flesh. Jesus is the Redeemer, the One John the Baptist hailed as “The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”
